Call for Projects SIC 2024
SoundImageCulture is a one year program that accompanies filmmakers and artists in the development of their film or audiovisual project. At SIC, a group of coaches – renown artists/filmmakers – and a group of peers will follow your project in a supportive and professional environment.
SIC has been thought by filmmakers for filmmakers and audiovisual artists in order to help them break the solitude of the creation process.
It is a framework based on the idea of thinking by doing, on discussion around concrete audiovisual materials.
What we are looking for and what we offer
We look for projects that are authentic and push the borders of audiovisual language.
We care about esthaetical and ethical reflections connected to the project. Our aim is to support the participant develop a radical artistic vision.
What we offer you: Filmmakers, artists and thinkers brainstorming collectively on your project; personal mentoring; encounters with international guests allowing new viewpoints on your project, masterclasses and seminars focusing on contemporary works and sound design, as well as a production seminar introducing the local production facilities and infrastructures. A public presentation of your work at the end of the cycle.
Collective sessions take place about every two months in Brussels. The common language is English.
Expectations and Selection
What we expect from you:
- To be present at the collective sessions,
- Give feedback and assistance to your peers ;
- To hold at least one meeting with your personal coach in between sessions ;
- To present audiovisual materials of your project at every collective session (footage, tryouts, edits).
Our selection is based on an audiovisual project proposal submitted by the candidate, which contains the following questions:
1) What is the subject of your project and why do you want to make it?
2) What is the relation between the author and his or her subject?
3) What is your formal approach? Is there a relation between your subject and the form you choose?
Application
To send us your application, complete the two steps by Friday 8 October 2023:
- Your application should have:
– the application form > please download the template provided below
– a document describing your project that answers the three following questions (max. 2 pages per question, feel free to insert some images in your document):
1) What is the subject of your project and why do you want to make it?
2) What is the relation between the author and his or her subject?
3) What is your formal approach? Is there a relation between your subject and the form you choose?
Please add your CV (max 2 pages) and links to your material.
Bundle all these documents in a PDF and upload it in the form below (by Friday 8 October 2023) - Don’t forget to upload the requested images (see below)!
Please note that the language for submission is English and formats other documents or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Any answers longer than 2 pages will not be accepted.

Participation fee : 1500 €
For Belgian residents there are possibilities to co-finance the participation fee via SABAM , SCAM and VAF.
Grant & Guests
Each year, once the SIC cycle is completed, the post-production Momentum Sic-Derives Grant may be awarded to one of the Belgian french-speaking participants.
The grant includes 10,000 Euros intended to finish the film, as well as post-production facilities: editing room, sound editing room, mixing, color grading, DCP printing and festival registrations.
The goal of this grant is to finish the films quickly without losing the initial momentum. It excludes any subsequent form of grant application on the French-speaking side. L’Atelier Derives effectively becomes the film producer.
